摘要:

Wave-based imaging in complex media plays a key role in applications such as medical imaging, nondestructive testing, and seismology. In this talk, we address both direct and inverse problems arising in wave propagation through such media. To describe complex media, we model their spatially varying properties as random processes and use multiscale analysis. This framework allows us to study the statistical behavior of the wave field, which in turn provides insight into imaging methods based on signals emitted by controlled or opportunistic sources and recorded by arrays of receivers.

Bio: Josselin Garnier has been a professor in applied mathematics in France since 2001, first in Toulouse, then in Paris at the University Paris Diderot and at the Ecole Normale Superieure, and finally at the Ecole Polytechnique since 2016. His research interests concern various aspects of applied probability, including wave propagation in random media, imaging for waves in complex media, uncertainty quantification, and the design and analysis of stochastic algorithms. He has authored three hundred papers in these areas and has written five research books and three textbooks.  He was the recipient of the Blaise Pascal prize in 2007 and the Felix Klein prize in 2008. He was an invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in 2018. In 2023, he was elected a member of the French Academy of Sciences.
