In this talk, I will address three fundamental challenges in multiscale model reduction for high-contrast media: (1) understanding how material contrast affects the localization properties of multiscale methods; (2) exploring the role of spectral gaps in the design and construction of effective coarse spaces; and (3)the emergence and characterization of topology-induced spectral gaps in the De Rham complex for high-contrast media.
